Garden Care In Winter
Careful preparation today ensures the gardens continue to flourish tomorrow
Since the last update…
We have removed all the roses from the outer ring of the Hill of Roses and begun treating the soil to help prevent rose replant disease. This careful preparation will allow us to replant new roses in around a year’s time, giving them the best possible start.
Other work across the gardens has included cutting back shrubs along the western and southern boundaries, pruning within the Garden of Peace, and continuing with routine weeding and edging of the lawn borders.
To help with larger tasks, we’ve been using a mini excavator (hired from Beaver Tool Hire) to remove Lonicera from the middle pond, as well as shrubs in other areas of the garden that have reached the end of their natural life. We hope to begin replanting these spaces over the next month or two.

Returning Nutrients to the Gardens
All garden cuttings have been shredded by Beth and Ollie and reused as green mulch across the borders. This not only returns valuable nutrients to the soil but also helps suppress weeds; all at no cost and without transport-related pollution!

A Milestone Moment!
We’re also very pleased to share that our apprentice, Beth, passed her driving test in January; what a brilliant achievement. Well done, Beth!

Best Wishes,
Martin
