Pause & Remember
A Lasting Tribute in a Timeless Setting
A Place of Reflection
At Portchester Memorial Gardens we have always sought to provide a calm and beautiful setting where families can remember and reflect.
Over the years the gardens have grown to include many special spaces, from quiet lawns and peaceful walkways, to the gentle rhythm of the trees and stream that surround us.
Our new Columbarium Wall is the latest part of this journey.
Set thoughtfully within the gardens, it offers a lasting place of remembrance, providing an above-ground option for housing cremated remains.
The Memorial Wall blends seamlessly with the tranquility of its surroundings, allowing visiting families to sit alongside the natural beauty of the grounds, while offering both a focal point and a space to pause.

About the Columbarium
Located along the northern perimeter of our grounds just beyond the Hill of Roses, the wall has been designed to hold individual memorial plaques, encasing a thoughtfully designed niche to hold cremated remains. Up to two urns can be placed side by side, creating a shared resting place for couples or loved ones who wish to remain together.
“Like flowers, we bloom, we fade,
but our fragrance lingers in the hearts of those who love us”
Made from bespoke slate, each plaque is carefully crafted to stand the test of time and offers space for a personalised dedication, creating a simple yet enduring way to honour a loved one. A glass window can also be created to provide a gentle view of the urn, or offering a space to place a flickering candle or cherished photograph.
A large inscribed garden planter is provided for families wishing to leave floral tributes at the base of the niche wall.

Why choose a Columbarium niche memorial?
A columbarium niche offers more than a place to hold ashes. It provides a permanent point of remembrance within a peaceful above-ground setting. It starts a new chapter in the garden’s growth and part of the continuing story for those who come to remember.
The term Columbarium comes from the Latin columba (“dove,” or “pigeon”), and originally referred to housing for doves and pigeons, also called dovecotes.

We hope that this space will offer our garden families comfort and a place to return to when wishing to remember, reflect and reconnect with cherished memories.
