Please note that our Office will be shut for Christmas from 4.30pm on Friday 23rd December, re-opening at 9.30am on Tuesday 3rd January 2017.
The Gardens will remain open as usual (8.30am-4.30pm) every day over the Christmas period, including Christmas Day itself.
Wishing all our families a lovely Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year.
We’ve just heard that our Memorial Service raised an amazing £1275.10 for the Rowans Hospice! Thank you all so much for your generosity!
Thank you to the hundreds of families who came to yesterday’s Memorial Service – we do hope you enjoyed it. We started the day with a disaster (see photo), when we came in to find a freak gust of wind overnight had sent flying two weighted-down gazebos (wrecking them in the process).
However, things got better from that point, and it was certainly a great relief that the weather held fair and didn’t rain on the Rowans volunteers handling the refreshments!
Many thanks go to Co-operative Funeralcare for sponsoring the refreshments once again; to Waitrose Waterlooville for donating some mince pies; to Coghlans funeral directors for printing the orders of service; to the wonderful Folks in Harmony for leading the singing and Avenue Audio for making sure they could be heard; to chaplain Carol Gully and the Rowans volunteers for their participation; to Highland piper Duncan Matthews for adding atmosphere; to Kyela Trivett of Gosport Co-op Funeralcare for coming along to help every year; and to all the volunteers who helped with parking, lantern lighting, greeting and refreshments.
We’ll let you know soon how much we/you managed to raise for the Rowans Hospice.
PORTCHESTER MEMORIAL GARDENS
Our Christmas Remembrance Service will take place on Sunday 11th December 2016 at 3pm. We hope to see you there.
Our 2017 calendars are now available to purchase at £3.99 (or £5 each if you wish to have them posted). They will be on sale at the Christmas Memorial Service the weekend after next, but you can pick yours up in advance by calling in to the office between 9.30am and 4.30pm on weekdays.
Once again, our thanks go to Steve Woolcock of Horndean Camera Club, who took the lovely pictures we’ve used.
It has been another clear, beautiful Remembrance Day here at the Gardens.
Just to let you all know, the Christmas Memorial Service this year will be on Sunday 11 December, starting at 3pm. Invites are currently being printed and will go out to grave owners next week. Look forward to seeing you there!
Don’t forget the clocks go back an hour, early on Sunday morning – and so we’ll be switching to our winter opening hours from Monday 31 October. Gates will still open at 8.30am every day, but will close at 4.30pm.
